Can Shorter People Ride Motorcycles?

Can Shorter People Ride motorcycles?

Shorter people can definitely ride motorcycles. If you’re shorter like me and your dream is to ride a motorbike, just go for it. It is 100% possible.

How short am I?

At 154cm (5ft1) in height, weighing 42kg (95lbs).

OK, But isn't it scary.

Overcoming the fear and stopping those voices in your head is part of the process. If it’s not your voice, other people may even tell you It’s too dangerous, you are too small, no bikes are suitable for you, what’s the point and this only adds to the self limiting beliefs. It took me a while to overcome my limiting beliefs and get past the fear, luckily I was surrounded by supportive people who believed in me more than I did. It is scary, but don’t let fear stop you from doing what you want. I’m glad I pushed past my fear and even though I have times I’m scared, I try my hardest not to let it control me.

Accepting the Challenge

Being ‘shorter’ comes with its challenges. The honest truth is that our society is conditioned and motorbiking was orientated for bigger stronger people (it’s slowly changing). The bikes currently in the market, are mostly large, or too heavy and not so elegant. However, where there is a will there is a way. I know a lot of shorter riders out there who have figured out a way to ride their dream bikes and you can too.

What bikes can short people even ride?

Short people can ride mostly any bike, depending on your experience and confidence. I am currently riding a Ducati Scrambler Full throttle, and at 5ft1 (154cm) I love it and feel comfortable on it. You can read my tips on how I lowered my Ducati Scrambler. Or you can read my post on the 3 bikes I started with to get some inspiration.

Lets change the Industry

When more people from the ‘petite world’ decide to push through and obtain their license, we can collectively change the Industry. Encouraging bike and gear producers to consider the ’petite market’, and start creating safer motorbikes and gear for all shapes and sizes.

Are you a short rider? I would love to hear from you.

If you are a ‘petitebiker’, I would love to hear about your experiences, feel free to share them in the comment section below.

Hi! Thanks for starting petitebikers! It’s so helpful. I am 5’3 and recently got a Ducati scrambler 62. I can get the balls my feet on the ground. This scared me when I dropped my bike last week. It’s helpful to read about ways to lower my bike!

Hi Anny, I can totally understand – I’ve dropped my fair share of bikes too, but the closer you are to the floor the more confident you feel! Did you try changing the seat?
